Cybersecurity is not always easy to understand, as the threat landscape is constantly changing.  We've put together a cybersecurity glossary to help clarify common terms.

1. **Cyber Attack**

2. **Cyber Insurance**

3. **Cybersecurity**

4. **Cybersecurity Lifecycle Framework (CLF)**

5. **Data Breach**

6. **Data Integrity**

7. **Hacking**

8. **Incident Response**

9. **Malware**

10. **Multi-Factor Authentication**

11. **Penetration Testing**
    
    A simulated attack designed to pinpoint risk and exposure.
12. **Personally Identifiable Information (PII)**

13. **Phishing**
    
    A method of identity theft that relies on individuals unwittingly volunteering personal details or information that can then be used for nefarious purposes. 14. **Ransomware**

15. **Social Engineering **
    
    The act of exploiting human weaknesses to gain access to personal information and protected systems. 16. **Spoofing**

17. **Spyware**
    
    Software that is secretly or surreptitiously installed into an information system without the knowledge of the system user or owner.  [[source](https://niccs.cisa.gov/cybersecurity-career-resources/glossary)]
18. **SSL Certification**
    
    The process of providing Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificates for secure online transactions.  [[source](https://www.techopedia.com/definition/29759/ssl-certification)]
19. **Trojan Horse**
    
    A computer program that appears to have a useful function, but also has a hidden and potentially malicious function that evades security mechanisms, sometimes by exploiting legitimate authorizations of a system entity that invokes the program. 20. **Virus**

21. **Vulnerability Assessment**  
    An assessment to define, identify, and prioritize vulnerabilities and their mitigation strategy based on the risk they pose.  [[source](https://www.compugen.us/security)]
22. **Worm**

23. **Zero-Trust**
